Copy-Copy-Copy-Copy-Copi-Copi-Copica?
-
Can the unexpected condition emerge out of a rhythmic pattern of repetition as a form of difference? Repetitive colloidal constructs, like media protoplasm on the roof/ceiling of this Parachute Pavilion, capture the tower image. One after another, each frame is a scaled-down projection of the tower as icon; its content is the icon and its collectivity construes another monument or mediation between the newly proposed pavilion and the existing parachute tower.
-
Is endless repetitious action one that shocks or makes complacent its viewer? Is the experience of the site/sight enhanced by the multiple layers or repetition, or does it evaporate of its own iconography by exhaustion from the postcards, snapshots or camcorder pans (all agents of the Media), thereby collecting/replacing the object/place by a further projection of the image?

Space/Program: Sensational Physicality
-
Accelerating building elements - escalators, jack-lifts, and undulating curves...animate the experience of mobility, heightened thrill of speed, antigravity flux, and accentuated feel of physical sensations and affective space. It is a mediated gesture between known comforts (on grade) and exhilarating vertigo (roller coaster). The walkway (twister tunnel) furthermore delivers a parachuting visual drag or a "force-activating" optical play between the enclosed spaces of the pavilion to the wide open endless horizon of the Atlantic.

Desire
-
How can we popularize architecture in our world of possibilities? Is the building architecturally stimulating and thus as seductive and/or as saturating as the Media (current technology of the fantastic)? This competition project is a critical construct of an architectural persuasion not just to emulate the Media but also an attempt to perform the systems that shape our world. The speculative mode-tone of the project is generated to negotiate a once bifurcated (perhaps still is) terrain between shock and comfort, academia and market, necessity and desire...
